Le Boulanger

SOLD
Le Boulanger
13cm x 23 cm. 5.1 in x 9.1 in.
Watercolour
“Very early this morning, about 2am I went to watch the baker at work. We tiptoed through the shop, so as not to wake the sleeping family upstairs, to the back. Working alone he mixed and weighed, shaped and rolled hundreds of pieces of white dough. The whole place, although there were large mixers, metal cabinets and ovens, felt soft. The smell was soft, a smell of childhood, yeast and flour. The dough was beautifully soft and springy. There was a whispering whiteness to the room. Even the contrast of the black metal baking racks and the dark quiet night outside held an enveloping softness like a brushed fleecy blanket.”
This is for sale, the prices are up there on the right, if you are interested then email me.

Thatching

SOLD
Thatching
9 cm x 15.5 cm. 3.5 in x 6.1 in.
Watercolour
“Passed a thatcher at work today in Lanvaudan. He climbed over the roof like an acrobat, pinning down the clean new reeds, using tools and equipment that looked timeless. He worked some kind of magic, coaxing the long thin strands of straw into something so solid and strong.”

Sunset.

SOLD
Sunset.
23 cm x 7.5 cm. 7.1 in x 3 in.
Watercolour

“I know it’s a bit of an awkward artistic area, painting a sunset, people seem to find them kitsch or over the top but I couldn’t help it, the sunset yesterday evening was breathtaking. Seriously over the top and full of the most glorious colours. I am a sucker for vapour trails as well. There were hundreds. I don’t think I have put in quite enough here. I threw caution to the wind and just enjoyed myself in fact so much there might be a few more…”
Dont forget that you can click on the picture to see a bigger version.
This is small so it is cheaper, including the postage it is 55 Euros (for Europe) 37 Pounds (for the UK) and 68 Dollars (for USA) Email me if you would like to buy a sunset.

Shoeing The Horse

SOLD
Shoeing The Horse
30cm x 30cm. 12in x 12in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas
“In the dim light of the early morning things are indistinct. There is a feeling of the day beginning with quiet industry, shapes emerging in the gathering light and swift bright punctuations as the shoes are fitted.”

Midday Shadows

SOLD
Midday Shadows
30cm x 30cm. 12in x 12in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“After much rain the sun has finally come out. At midday is low enough to cast long shadows with the trees. This autumn has been so warm that the trees seem permanently on the edge of turning while the forest floor is littered with the sharp points of colour that are fallen chestnuts.”
This is larger than the usual daily painting, I have run out of smaller canvasses (or is it canvai?) but it coincides with a little gap in the illustration work so I have some more time.
The price, should you be interested in a purchase is:
75 pounds (UK) 144 dollars (USA) and 112 euros (europe).
This includes postage. I do send all over the world talk to me for details.
Please email me if you are considering having this to keep for ever, on your wall, to enjoy for a very long time.

The Farrier

SOLD
The Farrier
20 cm x 20 cm. 7.9 in x 7.9 in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“ This morning the farrier was working at the stables down the lane. Every six weeks he arrives to re shoe the horses. The cold morning air mixes with the smell of horses and burning hoof as he puts white-hot shoes onto their feet. They obviously feel nothing as they each wait patiently for him to finish. It is quiet, occasionally the horse stamps and the radio murmurs early morning news in the background.”

The reproduction of these paintings leaves a bit to be desired, I am sorry about that. The fact is they are wet when I photograph them and I am not much of a photographer. In real life they are crisper and the colours are clear. However if you like them now just think how much you would like to own it, to see it for real…go on, buy one! Email me and we can sort it out. The prices are up to the right all including postage.

October Day

October Day
20 cm x 20 cm. 7.9 in x 7.9 in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“There have been storms and tempests, rain and wind. Now there is a lull, a brief respite and a window in the weather. So the dog and I dash out into a wet and dripping world. It reminds me of a child, worn out with sobbing, quiet now except for a few shuddering breaths, sodden and ravaged by the storm that passed through.”

The reproduction of these paintings leaves a bit to be desired, I am sorry about that. The fact is, they are wet when I photograph them and I am not much of a photographer. Poppies in the Rain

Poppies in the Rain
24 cm x 24 cm. 9.4 in x 9.4 in.
Watercolour
“I am not going to Paris after all. The car has broken and will cost a lot to fix. So today I was stomping around in the rain clearing out the workshop. On the way to the bonfire I saw these poppy heads, now skeletal tatters, standing against the grey rain soaked sky. I had to stop and draw them, then, very wet, go inside to make this painting. Afterwards I felt much better about everything. Maybe watercolour is my comfort food!”
This is for sale, I have to fix the car now so it all helps!
60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 90 euros (Europe). which includes the postage. Email me if you would like to buy this and any others. Or leave a comment if you like my work, it all helps you know and is much appreciated.

Moon Stones

SOLD
Moon Stones
20 cm x 20 cm. 7.9 in x 7.9 in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“ A couple of weeks ago I was down at the stones near Carnac. It wasn’t a full moon but it was a large moon. The sky was misty but the light shone through. The stones stood solid and impermeable in the soft brumous light of the moon. I did some sketches and committed much to memory, this is the result, moonstones!”
I am off on a trip to Paris, there will be a break in the posting up of paintings, by Friday I should be up and running again, all inspired and full of gusto! So please dont forget to come back.
These are for sale at the price indicated on the right, which includes the postage. Delivery will take up to two weeks, as the paintings are still wet. If you are interested in owning one of these daily offerings please email me, click at the side to do that.

Autumn Proclamation

SOLD
Autumn Proclamation
20 cm x 20 cm. 7.9 in x 7.9 in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“ A warm afternoon in October, the sky pure and cloudless and the distant fields are hazy. The trees are on the cusp of their full autumn glory. This field was catching the late afternoon sun and reflecting back a glorious blast of colour, like a trumpet call heralding the changing seasons.”

Broken Windows

SOLD
Broken Windows
20 cm x 20 cm. 7.9 in x 7.9 in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“ Vannes is a lovely town, full of wonderful architecture and beautiful shops. As is often the case with picturesque places it is easy to overlook the more subtle beauty that is there. These buildings with their arrangement of windows attracted me. The way the walls seemed to lean at a slightly odd angle, which was echoed in the sky above by a vapour trail was interesting. I feel the same way about people, lived in faces and bodies have rich stories to tell.”

Submarine Base

SOLD
Submarine Base
20 cm x 20 cm. 7.9 in x 7.9 in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“ The submarine base at Lorient is a strange and haunting place. It was built in the second world war by hundreds of prisoners. Now the massive walls of concrete are stained with rust, colonised by sea birds and grass grows in the cracks and crevices. It seems to me like a poignant memorial to all of the lives damaged by war. A memory of the sadness that man inflicts upon himself and his world. A great hulk poised, lonely and huge above the sea, being gradually softened by time. Like a stone heart.”

The reproduction of these paintings leave a bit to be desired, as they are wet I have to photograph them. In real life, they are crisper and the colours are clear. However if you like them now just think how much you would like to own it, to see it for real…go on, buy one! Email me and we can sort it out, the prices are up to the right all including postage.

As this is such a small painting, it has a smaller price. Including the postage it is 55 Euros (for Europe) 37 Pounds (for the UK) and 68 Dollars (for USA) Email me if you would like to start a little, fat and yummy collection.

Coffee

Coffee
13 cm x 15 cm. 5 in x 6 in.
Watercolour

“Occasionally it is good to sit down and tackle shiny and smooth, colour and reflection. Breakfast of juice, coffee and fruit provided the opportunity today. I enjoy looking back over the daily paintings to see the changes in colour and mood of the seasons. Still life, perhaps, will only show that in a very subtle way, maybe in the unconscious choice of colour or subject matter.”
Now for my sales pitch:
This little painting is for sale, it will arrive, signed and dated with a mount, in a protective envelope. The prices are inclusive of shipping and to be seen at the side.
You can also buy it as a limited edition print, in a print run of only 25 and printed on 190g Bockingford Inkjet Watercolour paper.

SOLD
A Still Day
20 cm x 15 cm. 8 in x 6 in.

Fern

SOLD
Evening Sun
Fern
20 cm x 19 cm. 7.9 in x 7.5 in.
Watercolour

“After a long dry summer, finally, the rain has come bringing with it an explosion of fresh new growth amongst the ferns and grasses. I needed to paint some ferns for a commission to illustrate a poem. These caught my eye while walking today. Bright and vibrant among the browns and reds of the autumn undergrowth.”

Monday, October 02, 2006

River

SOLD
River
20 cm x 15 cm. 7.9 in x 5.9 in.
Watercolour
“There is a place on the river, where the locks are. Just there a thin wall of stone reaches out into the water. Along that it is possible to walk, then you can sit, perched in the middle of the river. There was nothing particularly remarkable about the view. The sky was grey and a little cloudy. The trees ware the soft tired green that they wear just before the blaze that is autumn. However the sense of peace and tranquillity was huge. Maybe it was being surrounded by flowing water, or the soft light, I don't know but it was very relaxing to be there.”
This is for sale, the prices are up there to the right. It will be in a mount but not framed, posting framed work is a bit hit and miss. It will be lovingly wrapped and in a nice safe envelope.
Also available as a limited edition print, they look great, printed on very nice ink jet watercolour paper and in an edition of only 25.
I feel like I should have a market stall but I have to make a living you know so please forgive the little sales pitch!

Beachcombing, Sunday Morning.

Beachcombing, Sunday Morning.
20 cm x 15 cm. 7.9 in x 5.9 in.
Watercolour
“I love going to the beach on a Sunday morning, there is defiantly a “day off” feeling about it. A couple of dedicated beachcombers are picking their way through the flotsam and jetsam thrown up by last nights storm and someone is walking their dog. I know that after a very bracing hour on the beach we will retreat to a warm café for a good cup of coffee before going home.”

All about selling my work:
