Oil on stretched canvas

“These are my gardening boots, it has rained a lot recently so after a bit of work in the garden they look like this. They used to be “best boots” after a while all of my favourite clothes, having been worn a lot, reach the status of gardening gear or artistic apparel. They achieve clothes nirvana, a heaven where the most comfortable and much loved clothes go to be used and appreciated.”

Buddha

SOLD
Buddha
16cm x 16cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.
Oil on stretched canvas

“Continuing a meditative theme, this is the Buddha which used to belong to my grandmother. She was a well-travelled lady and I like to imagine that he was one of her finds from a time when travel was exotic and involved large trunks and long journeys on steamers. He reposes in his white marble slumber, a little area of calm and serenity in my studio and every time I look at him I am back with my Grandmother. I enjoy time travel with certain objects, this is one of them.”

This is for sale.

Pestle and Mortar

SOLD
Pestle and Mortar
16cm x 16cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.
Oil on stretched canvas

“I have a lot going on right now, lots of work, tight deadlines, a couple of commissions, bigger paintings that cry out to be painted, worrying about peoples health, trying to be a good partner (shock, horror! I am even doing the cooking at the moment!) So I wanted to calm down. Have a moment just for me. Painting defiantly provides an oasis of peace and painting something like this even more so. Smooth cool stone, soft edges and subtle shades. I come back to the real world, two hours later, refreshed and ready to face life again.”

This is for sale.

Breton Morning

Breton Morning
16cm x 16cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.
Oil on stretched canvas

“In Brittany at this time of year, as the trees rapidly loose their leaves and the pale sun highlights a damp and waiting earth, there is a sense of ancient forces. Old beliefs live within the stones and forests; mossy paths hold powerful secrets and big sky’s watch over this Celtic land. Walking out this morning it is as if everything is for the first time. The ancient magic is here and now. The world is new. Which I suppose it is, every single day, it is just that we don’t always notice it.”

This is for sale.
60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 90 euros (Europe). This includes the postage.Email me if you would like to buy this or any of the other paintings, Christmas is coming.

Oil on stretched canvas

Champignon de Paris

Champignon de Paris
16cm x 16cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.
Oil on stretched canvas

“Little button mushrooms, a study of white, well there is hardly any white here just little subtleties of tone and colour. The vegetable session is finished now. So the winter casserole was a bit of a strange one, no onions and some beans and bacon would have been nice. The call of the fields is too strong, the weather is sharp and frosty and I am off out with my dog and my sketch book to do some studies for next week’s paintings.”

This is for sale.
60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 90 euros (Europe). This includes the postage.Email me if you want some longer lasting vegetables for your kitchen.

Savoy Cabbage

Savoy Cabbage
16cm x 16cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.
Oil on stretched canvas

“For me this is the king of cabbages, I don’t care what it tastes like, although it tastes fabulous, I think it is simply stunning to look at. Deep furrows of greeny blue with ruffles of bright greens. If I ever had to have a posh frock, like I had an invitation to the Oscar’s or some such party, then I would base it on a Savoy cabbage. Just imagine how beautiful it would be!”

This is Available at The Gillian Jones Gallery

Jerusalem Artichoke

SOLD
Jerusalem Artichoke
16cm x 16cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.
Oil on stretched canvas

“A kind of sunflower with edible tubers. They have a fantastic sweet nutty flavour and are beautiful roasted. The colours on these little tubers are lovely rich reds and orangey pinks, yellows and deep dark browns. The French for this vegetable is Trompinambour, a name which reminds me of their side effect after eating too many. Excuse me, I must just leave the room, I feel a trompinambour brewing!”

Late Afternoon
12cm x 17 cm. 4.7 in x 6.7 in.

Reflections

Reflections
12cm x 12 cm. 4.7 in x 4.7 in.
Watercolour

There is a place along the river with a wide majestic curve where the water seems to slow down so that the sheltering trees are reflected perfectly. It is while I am watching this upside down world that I realise this place has captured me many times. Go back to October 4th and you will see the rest of the curve, the only difference is the colours of the trees and the sky now seems to hold a November grey within its clouds.”
This is for sale.
60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 90 euros (Europe). This includes the postage.
Email me if you are interested, go on, don't buy avocados, buy art.Alternatively, maybe I should say buy art so that I can buy more canvas and perhaps the odd avocado.

Autumn Bonfire

Autumn Bonfire
16cm x 9 cm. 6.5 in x 3.5 in.

Autumn Lamb

SOLD
To New York, a little bit of the country, going to the big city.
Autumn Lamb
20cm x 24cm. 7.9in x 9.4in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas
“It is a funny thing that happens when painting, after doing it for a long time I have found that a kind of metamorphosis occurs. Take this one for example, as I am painting I can smell the sheep, feel the softly pilled fleece and smell the autumn in the air. Then there is a sensory overload with the colours, there are so many in everything. The rust on the shed, the shades of ochre and lilac in the fleece, the vague greens and umber's in the shadowed straw.”
This is for sale.
60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 90 euros (Europe). which includes the postage.
Please email me if you are interested.
Also a very big thank-you to everyone who left a review here, you said some very nice things, I am humbled and most grateful.

The Shepherd

SOLD
The Shepherd
30cm x 30cm. 12in x 12in.
Oil on stretched linen canvas

“This is a friend of mine who runs a little organic farm. His animals live blissful lives foraging in the woods and fields. These lambs were only two days old, he shuts them in at night as they are still vulnerable to foxes but soon they will be bouncing through the autumn leaves. He will probably hate me for saying this but I think this is a very tender picture, the gentler side of man.”

I have been out enjoying the market today so my painting was a bit late; the light was fading as I finished so the reproduction of it here is not very good. Tomorrow, in the daylight I shall take a better picture.
I just have, click on the picture for a larger image.
It is for sale, larger painting so slightly larger price which is 75 pounds (UK) 144 dollars (USA) and 112 euros (Europe).
