Fitting The Shoe.

Fitting The Shoe.
30cm x 30cm. 12in x 12in.
Oil on stretched canvas

The moment that the farrier fits the shoe the air fills with a strange smell of hot iron and hoof. Morning light is dissipated through the smoke and steam. The horse is totally unconcerned, safe in the expert hands. The farrier makes the shoe fit perfectly using just his experienced eye, removing it for a slight adjustment before the final fitting. It is so fascinating seeing a real craftsman at work, watching the years of experience make a complicated task look so deceptively easy.

Wow - I'm so impressed by how you did that steam! And the composition is just so good as well. Lovely! I'm not in the least bit surprised that it's sold.
