Austin Restoration

There is a little cottage, buried deep in the Cornish countryside, down a rutted track, tucked into the woods above the Helford river.  This secret forgotten place has a beautifully muddled garden with old sheds and a homemade greenhouse.  Inside the greenhouse sits an old Austin A40 being slowly restored.  Everywhere there is an air of timelessness and a deep sense of peace.  It is the home of a friend of mine so I am able to go and look and paint in glorious quietude.

I have been working on some miniatures lately, tiny meditative still lives, they are very calming to paint as the concentration level is quite high.  This one is featuring the most beautiful pot that I brought with some late birthday money.  My Mother-in-law gave me the money telling me to make sure that I spent it on myself and so I did.  The first time in my life (I am ashamed to say) that I saw something in a gallery and brought it simply because it was beautiful...I felt very grown up!!

Garden Shed

A big watercolour about gardens, one of my favorite subjects.  Am painting loads but blogging them very little, there will be a break from this interweb thing.  I want to be introspective and concentrate on some work.  Back soon I expect.

Lovely Sky

First thing this morning, really lovely sky, sun shining, still water, beautiful.

First Light, Last Light

 Saturday July 30th, 8am, grey sky, no wind, still and cloudy, water ripples and snakes into the shore..

Monday August 1st, 8.45pm, the light levels are falling fast, very high tide with soft silky water.
