Summer Gardens

Potting Shed
210mm x 165mm, oil on board

£320

As anyone who ever reads this blog knows, I have a thing about painting gardens, and sheds.  This is my friends shed, she is a gifted gardener and she has the best kind of shed.  Piles of really useful things, bits of chicken wire, stacks of pots, a feast for painting.  This is in the summer show at Beside The Wave with lots of other wonderful summery paintings.  Four of our artists had big articles in Artist & Illustrator magazine this month, well worth a read and better still, the gallery is well worth a visit.

Mud Pies
425mm x 590mm, oil on board

£700

This is another garden, or allotment, painting which is in the collection. Also, what do you think of the scale figure.  I find trying to visualise the size of things from numbers quite difficult and I was trying to think of an easy way to show how big a painting is, especially on the Internet.  So I made myself a little scale figure, average height person, with the picture beside, all to scale, plus a line for how big the frame is.  Useful or not, opinions gratefully received!

Little Surf Hoppers

Everything will be up on the walls of the gallery today and on the web site.  The exhibition lasts until August 15th.  I don't know yet what it will all look like as I work from home four days of the week.  But I am going in on Sunday, by boat, and so will enjoy the "first hit" of seeing it all displayed beautifully, which is always a pleasure.

Summer Time

Over the Back Wall
610mm x 475mm, oil on board,
£730

or £73.00 per month with "Own Art"
Summer has arrived at the gallery, see the latest blog post here, or visit the gallery web site and browse the catalogue.
This painting is the view from the back of the gallery, if you look down there is a lovely little vegetable garden, with a door to the sea and a ladder for a quick getaway!  However, if you look straight out of the window you see this:
Which is also a lovely view, especially when the sun is shining, which is not a lot this summer.

Sold

A Soft Light
85 x 70 cm
Pure Watercolour
Framed in Gold with a wide mount.
£1750.00
SOLD
This painting has now found a new home. I am always happy to see them go.  I so enjoy it when people fall in love with a painting, (especially when it is one of mine)
It was framed to compliment the painting.  The more that I work in the gallery, selling paintings by lots of different people, the more that I come to realise that when the framing has been considered well by the artist it helps to sell the art.  People recognise good framing, so it is worth the cost and the risk, because it can be quite an outlay to get an exhibitions worth of pictures framed.  It becomes a business expense.  I am expecting delivery of my next lot of frames, chosen especially for a set of paintings destined for a great exhibition location, more will be revealed later.  They will be treated, black waxed and gold leaf this time, I am quite excited about seeing the finished result.

Felt Sculpture

Wool to Keep you Warm
Needle felted wool and Serpentine
SOLD
Carrying on with the Renaissance woman theme, here is a little sculpture, solid wool, no armature.  In total she measures about 25cm tall.  There is something very tactile about wool and the polished serpentine.  These take quite a lot of needling to create and this one has gone to a good home.

Neck Ornament

Lapis Lazuli, Silver Shapes and Silver Scribble set on a three part, beaten Silver Choker.
I have been making jewellery, there is a little collection of silver and lapis now for sale in the gallery.  I enjoy making these pieces because I love the colour combinations with the stones and precious metals, its also a bit like drawing, "taking a line for a walk" (Paul Klee)  As I have a hard time abstracting myself, while painting I think, making things like this could be good for my creative brain, by exercising unused bits of it!  Apart from that I quite like being Renaissance woman!
